Position Summary:
The Director of Junior Development will lead the vision, planning, and execution of all junior tennis programming at the Commonpoint Tennis and Athletic Center at Alley Pond. This role is responsible for developing high-quality, progressive training pathways for players ages 4–18, fostering a love of tennis while preparing athletes for recreational, competitive, and high-performance play. The Director will manage coaching staff, coordinate events, and ensure alignment with the club’s mission of providing exceptional, inclusive tennis programs to our community.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Development & Management:
- Design, implement, and oversee a comprehensive junior tennis curriculum from beginner to advanced competitive levels.
- Establish clear player pathways for skill progression, including transitions into competitive play and high-performance programs.
- Coordinate seasonal group classes, private lessons, holiday camps, and summer programs.
- Plan and execute junior tournaments, match play sessions, and other competitive events to encourage engagement.
Coaching & Instruction:
- Personally coach junior players across various skill levels, with a focus on fostering development and love of the sport.
- Mentor and develop coaching staff through training sessions, on-court observation, and feedback.
- Maintain a visible on-court presence to ensure program quality and participant satisfaction.
Staff Management:
- Recruit, schedule, and supervise junior coaching staff.
- Set teaching standards, best practices, and professional expectations for all junior coaches.
- Conduct regular staff meetings to align goals, address challenges, and share successes.
Community Engagement & Promotion:
- Collaborate with Marketing to promote junior programs via email campaigns, social media, open houses, and community events.
- Serve as a key point of contact for parents, providing progress updates, feedback, and recommendations for each player’s development.
- Build relationships with local schools, community groups, and tennis organizations to grow participation.
Administrative & Operational Duties:
- Track program enrollment, retention rates, and financial performance.
- Ensure all programming complies with club policies, safety standards, and USTA guidelines.
- Maintain equipment inventory for junior programs.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience coaching juniors at recreational and competitive levels; prior leadership experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of player development pathways and age-appropriate training methods.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple programs and schedules simultaneously.
- Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes.
- USTA, PTR, or ITF coaching certification preferred.

Schedule & Compensation:
- $15,000 Salary for the administrative responsibilities associated with serving as the Director of Junior Programs, including program oversight, staff management, scheduling, curriculum development, parent communication, and related administrative duties.
- $45-50/hr program rate for on-court directing, teaching, evaluations, and other instructional responsibilities.(As an independent contractor).
