ABOUT THE ROLE
To continue advancing the impact we have across the communities we serve, Commonpoint is hiring an Assistant Vice President of Health & Wellness to provide strategic leadership, business management, and operational oversight for a diverse portfolio of health, wellness, fitness, recreation, aquatics, and sports programs. This position will oversee multiple facilities and service areas, including Aquatics, Pool Clubs, the Tennis and Athletic Center, Sports, and Dance programs.
Primary duties include:
- Lead and oversee senior leaders responsible for recreational, wellness, and community engagement programs across multiple locations, ensuring high-quality experiences that promote healthy lifestyles, participation, and community impact.
- Drive program excellence and operational effectiveness by strengthening systems, establishing consistent standards, identifying opportunities for improvement, and supporting sustainable organizational growth.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development to Senior Directors and Managers, fostering accountability, collaboration, and strong leadership practices across departments and locations.
- Oversee fiscal performance and sustainability of assigned programs, including budgeting, resource allocation, operational planning, and identification of opportunities for program growth and innovation.
- Partner with organizational leadership to advance strategic initiatives, identify opportunities for innovation and expansion, and strengthen the long-term sustainability and impact of health, wellness, recreation, and community engagement programs.
The Assistant Vice President of Health & Wellness will lead the organization’s health, wellness, recreation, and community engagement strategy and operations while overseeing senior leaders and programs across multiple locations. This role will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and serve as a strategic thought partner to organizational leadership, helping drive program excellence, operational improvement, leadership development, fiscal sustainability, and organizational growth.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Program Oversight
- Provide strategic and operational leadership across Commonpoint’s Health & Wellness portfolio, including Aquatics, Pool Clubs, Tennis, Sports, and Dance programs.
- Develop and implement strategies that increase participation, strengthen program quality, expand community impact, and support financial sustainability.
- Ensure programs align with Commonpoint’s mission, strategic priorities, and community needs.
- Identify opportunities for innovation, growth, and continuous improvement across programs and locations.
- Monitor and drive enrollment, participation, facility utilization, revenue and expense performance, customer satisfaction, and other key performance indicators to strengthen program quality, community impact, and financial sustainability.
- Champion a high-quality participant and member experience across programs and facilities, ensuring services are responsive to community needs and consistently reflect Commonpoint’s standards for service and engagement.
Operations & Facility Oversight
- Provide executive oversight for multi-site operations through a team of Senior Directors and Managers.
- Oversee the safety, risk management, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, incident management, staff certifications, and facility operating standards across all Health & Wellness programs and locations.
- Establish and improve operational policies, procedures, and best practices to promote consistency and efficiency.
- Guide workforce planning, staffing strategies, and resource allocation to support quality programming and operational sustainability.
- Hold department leaders accountable for achieving operational, financial, and customer service goals.
Financial Stewardship & Business Growth
- Oversee divisional budgets, revenue goals, forecasting, expense management, and overall financial performance, ensuring programs achieve established financial and operational targets.
- Partner with Finance and department leaders to develop sustainable budgets and identify opportunities for growth.
- Evaluate financial and operational data to support decision-making, resource allocation, and continuous improvement.
- Support revenue-generating opportunities through programs, rentals, camps, events, partnerships, grants, and sponsorships.
Leadership Development & Team Management
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Senior Directors and Managers.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and excellence.
- Empower leaders to develop strategies, solve challenges, and take ownership of their areas of responsibility.
- Support succession planning and professional development throughout the division.
Data, Partnerships & Community Impact
- Utilize dashboards, reporting systems, and data analytics to evaluate performance and guide strategic decisions.
- Use data and trends to identify opportunities for program improvement and organizational growth.
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners, schools, vendors, sponsors, and industry organizations.
- Represent Commonpoint within the health, wellness, recreation, aquatics, and sports communities.
QUALIFICATIONS & KEY ATTRIBUTES:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in health and wellness, recreation, aquatics, sports management, or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex programs, operations, budgets, and diverse teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience overseeing multi-site operations, large-scale programs, and diverse teams.
- Strong financial and business management experience, including budgeting, forecasting, revenue generation, and performance monitoring.
- Experience leading senior-level teams and developing high-performing leaders.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically, develop business strategies, and identify opportunities for growth and innovation.
- Innovative, solution-oriented leader with the ability to assess challenges, develop comprehensive solutions, and empower teams to execute effectively.
- Strong analytical, communication, relationship-building, and change-management skills.
- Knowledge of aquatics, recreation, sports, fitness, wellness, or community-based programming.
- Passion for promoting health, wellness, recreation, and lifelong participation in physical activity.

Salaries are determined based on internal and external equity, as well as each position’s scope, qualifications, and organizational impact. We believe in compensating staff fairly and consistently, ensuring that all salary decisions align with our mission-driven commitment to equity and transparency.
To maintain fairness across the organization, salary offers are set according to established salary bands and are not subject to negotiation. New hires typically start near the beginning of the salary range to allow for growth based on performance, professional development, and tenure.
